Origins of surname

This surname is supposedly derived from the old English personal name Eadgar, and should be viewed as a variant of Edgar, Eager and Ager.

Early records

The first Adair to arrive in Jersey was William, who married Marguerite Pallot and settled in St John and raised a family around 1847. William was born in Malta, where his father was serving in the Army. After his father's death his mother, Jane, travelled to Jersey with William and his sister Emma.

Variants
