Origins of surname

This family name is derived from the oldest personal name of them all - Adam. The actual derivation of Adam is disputed, but it is wedely believed to come from the Hebrew adama, meaning earth.

Adams first appeared in Jersey church records in 1702, but it was towards the end of the 18th century that the first family really became established.
