Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. Richard was most likely the son of Richard Anley of Les Aix and Mabel du Costil. The link to their tree is shown above

  9. At the time of Anne`s marriage, she was described as "daughter of the late Thomas"
  10. Described on christening as son of "Thomas Anley fils Jacques, et Matthie" (Marthe). His godparents were: (unnamed) wife of the said Jacques and her son Jacques, being the infant`s grandmother and uncle
  11. The godfather of Marie Anley "fille Jacques et Esther, sa femme" is named, in the St John`s register transcript, as "Jean Anley junior, frère dudit Jacques"
  12. She married in 1693, after the death of Jacques, Abraham Esnouf
  13. Described on christening as "Thomas fils Jacques, fils Jacques", with Jacques senior as his godfather
  14. Godmother: Elizabeth Le Sebirel, mother of the said Thomas [the father], and wife of Abraham Esnouf

Edouard Anley was described on marriage in 1774 as being then of the Island of Alderney. Children were likely to have been born to Edouard and his wife, prior to their return to Jersey, in about 1784
  19. Godparents: Mons Philippe Le Vavasseur dit Durell and Dlle Anne Le Vavasseur dit Durell; Oncle et Tante
  20. Baptised in 1791 as "Guilleaume", he used the English "William", other than at the time of his marriage. Note: Langton has him as son of Thomas Anley, his uncle. No reason is supplied for this conclusion. William was an Ecrivain (solicitor), living at `Sans Souci`, St Helier. A Lieutenant in the Militia, he died aged 59, in St Helier
  21. Receiver for Lambeth Water Works, 1851-1871-
  22. Gentleman, son of the Revd. Charles Michael Turner of Co. Wexford, Ireland
  23. He was a Freemason, as was his brother. Le Vavasseur was in 1871, an insurance clerk
  24. Herbert Phipps Anley married in 1900; there was possible issue
  25. Schoolmaster and later of Independent means, son of William Lowcay, Lieutenant, R.N.
  26. Settled in St Helier; Lieutenant in the Militia, who played a vital part in the Battle of Jersey (1781); Captain (1785). Anley, a popular hero, exemplified the problems faced by younger sons of formerly well-to-do families in an over-populated Island, in which the family was required by law to divide, each generation, its land. The grandson paternally of a successful merchant and maternally of a seigneur, Anley was, we are told, obliged to make a living as a book-keeper in a butcher`s shop and was otherwise described by his political enemies as a "clerk at a slaughter-house". He became a champion of democracy; Constable of St Helier, 1803-7 and then a Jurat (elected 1807 but disallowed, see biography), 1816-1827. G. R. Balleine wrote that "he became one of the chief speakers in the States, and from his profound knowledge of Jersey Law, was always listened to with respect": A Biographical Dictionary of Jersey, (Staples Press, 1948). Anley Street in St Helier is named after him
  27. Born prior to marriage and legitimized at her parents` marriage in 1803
  28. Langton mentions the name Baldwin. The Burials` Register, St Saviour, mentions only that Attilia was widow of " Charles Philip Coote Esq."
  29. Officer in the Royal Marines [J.B. Payne, An Armorial of Jersey, 150] and later a Ship`s Chandler at Tower Hamlets, Middlesex
  30. Ferdinand and Marie Elizabeth, née Dumaresq, presented for baptism at St Ann, Limehouse: Ferdinand Wright Anley (1789), Mary (1791 and d. 1796), William (1792), Charlotte (1796), Charles (1797) and Fredericka (1799), the year of her father`s death
  31. Edouard Anley, presumably the Edouard senior (1791) above, married and had descendants in Guernsey and England, which included several officers of the armed forces
  32. Her godparents were Mr Jean Simon and Mse Anne Anley, his wife
  33. Godfather, as "Jean Anley junior", of his niece, Marie Anley, in 1632. At this date, Jean Anley senior would have been his uncle, Jean fils Richard
  34. Andrey "fils Jean Anley junior et Sara, sa femme"
  35. Source: Langton`s research in court records
  36. Pierre`s godfather was Thomas Le Mottais, who will have been a member of his grandmother`s family
  37. Langton`s research
  38. Source: Langton`s research in court records
  39. Godfather: Andrey Anley
  40. "Elizabeth fille Thomas, fils Jean"
  41. Thomas Anley, fils Jean, is known, from Elizabeth Anley`s burial record in 1643, to have married and had issue, unlike his 1st cousin, Thomas fils Thomas
  42. (unnamed), "fille Pierre fils Jean et Elizabeth" (1636)
  43. Thomas "fils Pierre et Elizabeth" (1641)
  44. Jeanne "fille Jean fils Richard" (1637)
  45. Jean "fils Jean fils Richard" (1653)
  46. Godfather: Jean Anley, father of the said Jean [the father]. Thus the child`s father was Jean Anley, fils Jean, fils Richard, who was in 1653 married (secondly) to Matthie Sarre
  47. Godfather: Pierre Anley, who was her uncle
  48. Thomas "fils Jean" (1673)
  49. Tentative placement, as son of Richard. He was the godfather of Thomas, son of Jean Anley, fils Richard, in 1610
