Origins of surname
The English name comes from Benham in Berkshire and Binham in Norfolk, and ultimately derives from the old word for 'river meadow'.
The Scottish surname is also locational, from Benholm in Angus.
THe first record of the name in Jersey is the marriage at St Saviour on 29 September 1783 of Robert Benham and Sara Skelton, both of Southampton and living in St Helier.
