Origins of surname

This is a name from the West Country of England and its original derivation is believed to be the old English bur = 'cottage' and bearu = 'grove' or 'wood'. So the original Boobyer (or Boobier, Bowbeer, Bubeer or Baubier) lived in a cottage in a small wood

Early records

The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was in St Lawrence in the 1860s, when William Boobyer and Grace set up home in St Lawrence
