This name first appeared in Jersey at the end of the 17th century, and a family tree can be traced through baptism records until the end of the next century. However, there are strangely no records of marriages nor burials of family members.

Origins of surname

No information has been found on the origins of this surname. Although it would appear to be French, it does not figure in any of our regular French surname listings, nor have we been able to locate any Bredlot family records in France or the United Kingdom.

Early records

The first recorded baptisms in Jersey were those of Rachel and Michel, children of Michel, in St Saviour in 1699 and 1702. They were followed by five children of Jean, also in St Saviour, between 1704 and 1724. All baptism records for the family were in St Saviour.
