Origins of surname

This surname has English origins, but ultimately it is derived from Englishmen's attempts to pronounce the name of the French port Boulogne

Early records

The surname first appeared in Jersey records in the 1810s, with the baptism of five children of John Bullen and Esther Hamon. John came to the island from Weymouth. As the tree below shows, his ancestry can be traced back to the 17th century in Dorset.
