Origins of surname

This surname, a derivatie of Cage, was applied to somebody who made cages, for birds or small animals. It could also have referred to someone who was responsible for keeping people in a cage - a jailer

Early records

The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was the baptism of William Cager, son of William and Jeanne Le Masurier, in St Clement in 1808. The couple had seven further children baptised in the parish over the next 18 years
