Origins of surname

This surname originated in a Gaelic nickname, caimbeul, meaning 'crooked mouth', from dam = 'bent' and beul = 'mouth'

Early records

The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was in the 1750s, when the daughters of John Campbell and Anne Read were baptised.
