Origin of Surname
The surname Carré is derived from the French work carré meaning square. In France this is believed to be derived from someone "square-shouldered", although it could also refer to someone who was a mason or carpenter by profession.
It can be found in Guernsey as early as 1309, when Philip Carrée was recorded as a landowner.
Please note: there is no connection between this Guernsey surname and "nom de plume" of author John Le Carré
