Origins of surname
This surname means 'maker of carts' from the old English craet and wyrhta.
The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was in 1818 when Joseph Cole, the son of George and Jane, was baptised in Grouville. He married Fanny Grant, daughter of James, in neighbouring St Martin in 1844, and their children were baptised there from 1846 onwards
