Origins of surname

This name was originally that of three Irish clans, which may not have been related. It translates as 'the son of the saffron coloured one', and is a nickname for a fair-haired person, perhaps a Viking. The name could also be derived from the French couronne, for crown.

Early records

The surname first appeared in St Helier records in 1853. Separate families moved to the island from Bristol and Ireland.
