Origin of Surname

The family is thought to be of French origin and linked to the old spellings de Ryeulx and de Rieulx, which suggest that it is not as simple a derivation as a direct translation of the modern French "from the street" would suggest. Because de La Rue is essentially a Guernsey name, although it has been present in Jersey since the 19th century, and is found in much older records, we show it as a separate family.

Early records

The name first appears in Jersey in the 15th century
