Origins of surname

This name originates with a deacon, or perhaps his servant. It derives from the Old English deakne, Old French diacne. Both are ultimately from the Latin diaconus or Greek diakonos meaning servant.

Early records

The Deakins family came to Jersey from Surrey at the end of the 19th century. The four children of William George and Jane Eleanor de la Motte were baptised in St Helier from 1899 to 1905.
