Robert MacRae, current holder of the office

Deputy to the Bailiff, civic head of the island

An increase in the workload of the Bailiff, particularly in the Royal Court, led to the creation of the role of Deputy Bailiff in 1958. Most of the holders of this office have gone on to become Bailiff, with the exception of Frank Bois, who was appointed after Cecil Harrison died only months after taking over as Bailiff, Vernon Tomes, who was dismissed from office, and Frank Hamon, who was appointed when Philip Bailhache became Bailiff a short time later.
