Origins of surname

We have not been able to find any reference to the meaning of this name. It could relate to the Pays de Caux district on the Normandy channel coast, and refer to someone living in a town there, possibly Le Havre, Dieppe or Fecamp, but that is just conjecture.

Early records

The name first appears in Jersey chruch records in 1677, with the baptism of the Pierre and Elie, possibly twin sons of Pierre, at St Peter.

The name is not listed by the compiler of our Comprehensive list of Jersey surnames, so it did not appear in any earlier official documents.
