Benjamin Retallick probably came to Jersey from Cornwall in the mid 18th century with his mother Margaret, and father, whose name is not known. The 1841 census shows both he and his mother born in Jersey, but there are no matching baptism records. It is also possible that his son Benjamin was also born outside the island, because there is no baptism record for him. The St Helier baptism register shows Benjamin's wife as Hamon three times, Homes twice, Holmes once and Aumon once.
