Descendants of Clement Bisson

It is suggested that Clement was born in St Peter in 1736, the son of Jean Bisson, and his marriage record shows that both he and Marie William were from St Peter. However, the only baptism date for a Clement Bisson in St Peter which would fit with a 1788 marriage is that of Clement, son of Jean, on 1O October 1736. While marriage at the age of 52 is not unheard of, it is not an obvious match.

The only Jean born in St Peter who could be Clement's father was baptised in the parish in 1688 and was the son of Philippe. So this Jean would have been 48 when he married. Again, this is not impossible, but it does suggest that there was a tradition in this family for marrying late. Both could have been second marriages, but there are no records of earlier marriages to support this. Either both Jean and his son Clement did marry late, or there are some missing St Peter records.

Some Bisson trees have shown Clement at Generation 2 as having a Canadian mother and Canadian grandparents, but there is no documentary evidence for this

Having believed that we had correctly identified this Bisson descendancy we were alerted in October 2018 to an incorrect wife for Philippe Jean at generation 4, and further advised that he married twice, once in Canada as Philippe Jean and, having returned to Jersey after being widowed, he married again as Philip John

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.
