The monument to Rear-Admiral Sir Thomas Le Hardy (1666-1732) in Westminster Abbey

The Le Hardys were one of Jersey`s most distinguished families, but outgrew their place of origin. This tree, originally based on a tree in Payne's Armorial of Jersey, was one of the earliest added to the site in May 2010. It has been reviewed and altered on a number of occasions since

As always with Jerripedia trees going back to the 14th century, early dates must be treated as approximate. This is particularly important with this tree: we have incorporated some details from a shorter tree covering the same descent and deleted the second tree.

Much work was undertaken by Guy Dixon in 2022 to verify, correct and expand elements of this tree

Le Hardy family page and links to other trees

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

This is the site of the now demolished home of the Jurats Le Roux in the late middle ages, the property having long been called La Maison du Roux. The stone does not match that of the wall and was probably preserved on the demolition of La Maison du Roux, to be mounted in what was then the garden wall. 91. From 1440 to at least 1457, there were two contemporary Drouet Le Hardys, being uncle and nephew, both of whom are said to have been Jurats. One was Lieutenant-Bailiff in 1444. This would, in all likelihood, have been the older man, namely this Drouet, in which case, the Armorial of Jersey, 220, will have been, on this point, incorrect
  92. Loyalist Rector of St Martin in 1432; Seigneur of Melesches by purchase, in 1446. Living at the start of 1463. From his trial in 1463, emerged the details of his mother, his parents` date of marriage, the names of his two brothers, that his brother Drouet was then aged 72 and that, according to Balleine, both brothers had been Jurats: G R Balleine, A Biographical Dictionary of Jersey, . As the pro-Lancastrian, and therefore pro-French, Raulet de St Martin was afterwards Seigneur of Melesches, it would seem that Thomas Le Hardy was found guilty and suffered the conviscation of his estate
