Descendants of John Vickery
TreeIcon.png

The top three generations of this tree have been challenged by a Vickery descendant. He has told us that George Vickery and Ann Matthews did not come from Exminster, but that their children were baptised in London. We are carrying out further research before amending or deleting the top of the tree.

Thomas Vickery, his wife Marie, nee Coutanche, and six of their children are shown in the 1851 Jersey census living at 1 Hemery Place, La Motte Street. Thomas' birthplace is shown as England, as is that of his sister Ann, who was living with her brother and his family, and was listed as a housekeeper. Thomas, who was then aged 52, is shown as a retired perfumer. His address and early retirement suggest that he was a man of some affluence, although the family had no servants, unlike the occupants of the other houses in what is properly known as Hemery Row
