Descendants of Pierre Le Maistre

TreeIcon.png

This tree was researched by Guy Dixon with the intention of positively identifying as many as possible of the 16th and 17th century Le Maistres in St Peter. It is currently one of three

Le Maistre family page and links to other trees

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. C.H. 6/362R (1599) [translated]: Pierre Le Maistre, son of Jean and of Madelaine, his wife, sued by Francoise Le Cornu [this is an unusual wording but intelligible] daughter of the said Jean and his said wife [in fact, she was Francoise Le Maistre] to amend the division of the inheritance. Note: Each generation, this was the responsibility of the elder son
  2. Cour d`Heritage ( henceforth written C.H.) 6/66r (1592): “Pierre Le Maistre, fils aine de Jean Le Maistre, ledit Jean Le Maistre fils aine de Pierre Le Maistre, en deffaute [against] Collas Anley, a cause de sa femme, fille dudit Pierre Le Maistre” (see below, generation 2); also C.H. 5/11 (1583) [translated]: St Peter: “Pierre Le Maistre, eldest son of Jean Le Maistre being sued by Helier Maret, in right of his wife [for her share of the parents` inheritance]”. See generation 3
  3. Registre Public (henceforth written R.P.) 5/82 (1617)
  4. R.P. 5/82 (1617): “Matthieu Le Maistre, eldest son of the above]”
  5. Placement based upon godparent evidence. He was also the godfather in 1646 of Marie Le Brocq, daughter of Jean, and of Perrine Le Maistre, his wife, see Descendants of Jean Le Maistre - 3. The godmother was Philippine Remon
  6. Godfather: Guillaume Remon. The christening on 16th June 1650 of an apparent brother of Rachel, named Matthieu Le Maistre, must be regarded with caution. His parents` names were not entered in the register. In fact, his first name may have been derived from his godfather, Matthieu de Ste Croix. The latter family were related to a different Le Maistre family, albeit in the same parish, St Peter
  7. Godparents: Thomas Le Maistre, generation 5, and the wife of Jean Remon
  8. Godparents: Noe Le Maistre and his wife, generation 5
  9. Godparents: Pierre Le Maistre, father of the said [father] Matthieu, and Collette, wife of Philippe Viel
  10. Godfather: Pierre Le Brocq, generation 4
  11. Jean Le Maistre, “fils puiney”: R.P.5/82
  12. Marie Le Maistre, “ fille...”, as above
  13. C.H. 5/11
  14. C.H. 6/296 (1598): “Jean Le Maistre delivers a part of the inheritance of Pierre Le Maistre to George Le Brocq, in right of his wife”
