- Maillard: In 1941 Sydney James Maillard (1883- ) and his wife Laura Jane, nee Bichard (1879- ) lived here. Sydney James was left the house by his mother Maud Mary, nee Machon, in her 1939 will. The exact sequence of inheritance is uncertain. Maud Mary's husband James John Maillard, who owned Fitzroy House but did not live there, made a will in 1928 giving his wife life enjoyment of the property, which would then pass to his grandson Hedley James, by passing his son Sydney James. Something must have changed for his mother to leave it to him.
