Origins of surname

This surname originated in France and was brought to England, and possibly also to Jersey, by Huguenot refugees, although the earliest baptism record in 1864 suggests that it was probably a later introduction to the island. This is an occupational name which derives from the word frigoleur and means a seller of fried food.
