Origins of surname

References to this name having Swedish and Hebrew origins seem to us to be irrelevant for a name which clearly came to Jersey from France, is still in the island today, but seems to have escaped the attention of our usual sources on the origins of French surnames.

Early records

The first Gorin records began to appear in Jersey records in the 1860s. The family arrived in Jersey, as did so many others, from the department of Cotes d'Armor in north Brittany, originating in the commune of St Julien, where their ancestry can be traced back to the 17th century.
