Origins of surname
This is one of the very few Jersey surnames for which we have been able to find no information about its origins.
The first member of the family to arrive in Jersey may have been Joseph, who came from France and married Rosalie Gazony (possibly Guerin) at Trinity in 1896.
Andre Gorvel, probably his grandson, born in 1925, drowned while trying to escape from the island during the German Occupation in 1944.
Further research suggests that Joseph Marie's younger brother Francis Adolphus may have come to Jersey at the same time.
- Descendants of Joseph Gorvel
- Descendants of Noel Francois Gorvel a longer version of the first tree, from a different source - much extended in 2018 to take it back to the 16th century

- Francis Baptiste Gorvel (1884- )(Tr) son of Noel and Augustine, husband of Mary, Private, Dorsetshire Regiment, gassed
