Origins of surname

This is a variant of Hoar, which means 'white' - think of hoar frost - or greyish white.

Early records

The first church record for Hoare in Jersey is the baptism of Anna, daughter of William and Lydia White in St Lawrence in 1714. The next was 120 years later, when Louisa, daughter of John and Maria, was baptised in St Helier.
