Origins of surname

Rather than describing a man living near a lake, as we know an open stretch of water, this surname is more likely to be derived from the Anglo-Saxon word for a boundary stone - lah

Early records

The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was the baptism in St Helier in 1848 of John Henry, the first of six children of Henry Lakeman and Ann Eastley

Variations

  • Lakeman
