St Brelade:

Le Coin Cottages

LeCoinCottages.jpg

This pair of semi-detached cottages is on Mont au Roux at La Haule, next to Le Coin. To the untrained eye it looks like a single property divided into two units, but Joan Stevens', Old Jersey Houses [1] describes the cottages as a rare example in Jersey outside of St Helier of semi-detached houses of any age.

She suggests that the smaller of the two cottages may have been built before the other. Although official documents show the owner in 1670 as J Le Petevin dit Le Roux, the author fails to find any architectural proof that either cottage is that old, but does note some alterations probably made in the 18th century.

Other occupants of the cottages are known to have been Jean Vibert in 1774-1786 and J B Le Feuvre in 1872.
