Origins of surname

This is a Breton surname, particularly common in the Cotes d'Armor commune of Ploeuc-sur-Lie and nearby locations. We have not been able to find any reference to its derivation, other than a suggestion that it is linked to pavot, the French for poppy

Early records

The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was the baptism of John, son of Jean Marie Le Pavoux and Lucie Eugenie Augustine in St Peter in 1879. The first church record was By 1941, when identity cards were issued during the German Occupation, John was one of 17 Le Pavoux family members in Jersey. The family is one of many to come to Jersey around this time from Ploeuc-sur-Lie
