Origin of Surname

The surname Le Tissier refers to the occupation of weaver (French: tisserand). The first reference in Guernsey is in the parish register of the Castel church which recorded the marriage of "Francois Tessier des parties de France" to Rebecca Priaulx in 1700. Here "des parties" may refer to the fact that he was a refugee (possibly Huguenot refugees).
