Origins of surname
Although this name, of French origin, is found in the north of England, where it translates as verger, it has nothing to do with the church official. It means a guardian of forest, or woodland, or an orchard.
The only baptism in Jersey Church of England records is that of Thomas, the son of Anne Vaudin and an unnamed father in 1840.
