New Guernsey, Solomon Islands
New Guernsey (also known as Nendo Island and Lord Egmont's Island) is the main island of the Santa Cruz Islands, which form part of the Solomon Islands.
The island is 40 km long by 22 km wide. It is 2,040 miles from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and 2,264 miles from Cairna, Australia. The current population (2012) is approximately 5,000.
Other islands in the group include Lord Howe's Island or New Jersey; to the east, Lord Edgcombe's Island or New Sark (also called Utupua) and Ourrys Island or New Alderney (Vanikoro Islands); and to the north-east Swallow Island.
