Origins of surname
This is a name from Haute-Loire, and also from Hérault and Bouches-du-Rhône on the Mediterranean coast of France. Several derivations have been suggested, including a young shepherd, from the Occitan pastor, an area of pasture, or simply from the old personal name Pastor.
There is an isolated record of the baptism of Richard, son of Richard, in St Ouen in 1724. The name reappears in Grouville in the 1860s. This family came to Jersey from Manche in Normandy, having originated in Courcy in the neighbouring department of Calvados.
