Whilst the origin of this surname is uncertain, the highest concentrations of the surname Raby/Rabey in the United Kingdom are in Guernsey and Cornwall. The surname can also be found in France on the coasts of Normandy and Brittany facing the Channel Islands.

The earliest member of this family found in Guernsey is Elizabeth Rabey, who married Jean Robert in St Martin in 1671.
