Origins of surname
Although some sources for surname derivations attempt to link this family name to an English placename, they are forced to admit that there is no such place, nor are their any records of it having existed. Basically that means that they don’t know.
John Rapsey came to Jersey from Somerset and married Mary Ellis, of Plymouth, in St Helier in 1824. Over the same period that their nine children were being baptised, Thomas Rapsey and another Mary were building up a family of six.
