Origins of surname

This is a Breton name from the Germanic personal name Raginward (ragin = 'advice' + ward = 'guardian')

Early records

Renouard did not arrive in Jersey until the middle of the 19th century. Strangely, for such a latecomer, the name does not feature at all in St Helier records, but only in country parishes, from St Ouen in the west, to Trinity in the north and Grouville in the east.

Variants

  • Renouard
