Richard Collas

Richard John Collas (1953- ) has been the current Bailiff of Guernsey since 2012.

He was born in Guernsey in 1953 and was educated at Elizabeth College. He was awarded the King Charles Scholarship and studied Engineering Science at Jesus College, Oxford.

Following a career in industry with Unilever, he studied Law at City University and Inns of Court School of Law, graduating in 1982.

He returned to Guernsey and was admitted to the Guernsey Bar as an Advocate of the Royal Court in 1983.

He was appointed Deputy Bailiff in June 2005 and was sworn in as Bailiff on 23 March 2012. He also became the island's Deputy Lieutenant Governor at the same time.

In the early 1990s he was procurer of the poor in St Andrews. He is also a former governor of Les Bourgs Hospice.
