Origins of surname

We have not found any references to the origins of this surname but rimeur is modern French for 'rhymer', strongly suggesting that the name was given to a poet, or someone who recited rhyming verses.

Early records

This is a name from the west of the island, most notably St Peter and St Mary. The first births were registered in the latter parish in the 1880s. The name is very common in Ploeuc-sur-Lie in north Brittany, from where several families came to Jersey in the 19th century to work on farms. The only family tree we have been able to trace (see below) is firmly rooted in Ploeuc.
