Origins of surname

The name is derived from the Germanic Hrodwald, meaning 'glorious ruler'. It is mainly found in Brittany. The family in the tree below came from St Jacut du Mene in Cotes d'Armor.

Early records

The name appears in Jersey church records at the turn of the 16th-17th century, and in other records as early as 1515, but must have died out. It reappears early in the 20th century with the arrival of Eugene Rouault from Brittany.
