Origins of surname

Thisi surname is found in Brittany, and Savoie, on the opposite side of France. It is a diminuitive of tardif = ‘slow’. In common with many French surnames, the spelling varies from department to department.

Early records

The first Tardivels to arrive in Jersey, around 1865, were farmworkers from Ploeuc-sur-Lie, which is where many new Jersey families in the 19th century set out from. The family trees below indicate that two apparently unrelated families emigrated to Jersey
