This name is derived from Wookey, a place in the Mendip Hills, in Somerset, which was first recorded in 1065, although the family name only first appeared in the mid-16th century.
The name did not appear in Jersey records until 1821, when Joseph Walkey and Susannah Carenduff, both from Cornwall, married in St Helier. Their ancestry can be traced back to the 16th century.
