Origin of Surname

The surname Balan can be traced to some of the very earliest surviving Guernsey records. The Assizes Rolls of 1309 refer to Gervaise Balan a juror of Vale parish, as well as William Balan, who was accused of kidnapping John Robert's wife.

The name has long since died out in Guernsey, with only Rocque Balan, as a permanent record of the family in the island.
