Francis Barbier's Attestion Paper on which he lied about his age to join the Canadian Army
|
- Francis Ernest Barbier (1899-1916) (Tr), son of John and Alice, Private, 5th Canadian Pioneer Battalion, died The Jersey Roll of Honour gives his age at death as 21. When he joined the Canadian Pioneers he gave his date of birth as 22 May 1896, which would have made him 20 when he died seven months later. His baptism record and census returns show clearly that he was born in 1899, and so only 17 when he died. It also appears that he died within days of arriving in England with his unit, so never saw active service.
Two brothers of Francis Ernest
