Descendants of Guill Remon
TreeIcon.png

This tree, first added in 2014 and expanded in 2018, was compiled from a submitted tree, with earlier generations taken from church records of baptisms and burials. The first three generations were suspect but a review in 2019 has revealed more marriage details, and baptism records suggest that the links between the generations are correct. The family, essentially based in St Peter, and then St John, seems to have moved from parish to parish for baptism and marriage ceremonies

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. Marriage record not found
  2. No issue found
  3. Madeleine`s placement as a daughter of Madeleine Fleury, godmother of Marguerite Remon (1787- ) daughter of Josue, and of Jean Remon (1797- ), son of Thomas, has been confirmed by her burial in 1821 as "Madeleine Remon fille Jean"
  4. Placement from the Will (1815) of Thomas Remon, below
  5. This Rachel was shown as marrying Thomas de Gruchy in 1776. A partage, RP 73/78 (1790), shows that the Rachel Remon who did marry de Gruchy was the daughter of Thomas Remon and Elizabeth Arthur
  6. Marriage record not found
  7. Sailor, living in the Vingtaine du Nord, St John, aged 50. Fisherman, living in St John, in 1858
  8. Marin (Mariner/Sailor) in 1857
  9. Proprietor
  10. Carpenter in 1858
  11. Widow of Henry Russell
  12. Master of Dandy in 1826. Note the brevity of his command. This is surely the Thomas Remon who made his Will in 1815, and who died in or shortly before 1827, when the Will was proved: D/Y/A/20/107, at the Jersey Archive. The Will mentions the testator`s brothers and sisters, Josue, George, Marguerite and Francoise, with remainder to his "aunt Elizabeth Remon, daughter of Jean and Madeleine Fleury." This is important as it shows that Thomas, the testator, was Jean Remon and Magdeleine Fleury`s grandson, and that his stated siblings were also grandchildren
  13. Godfather: François Fleury
  14. "Thomas Remon, son of Jean, buried 16 September 1800, after having been drowned in La Grande Rade (the outer roads, or harbour approach), the night of 31 August 1800"-St John. He was presumably a sailor. He is not to be confused with Me Thomas Remon, who married in St Lawrence in 1799, Mse Susanne Le Sueur. They were described as being, on marrying, "both of St John", which may have been, in fact, Susanne`s parish. Their four children were christened at St Lawrence between 1800 and 1808
  15. Died in St Helier, aged 55 years, Ropemaker
  16. Marie Remon`s Will, dated 6 July 1864 (proved 1865) left all her chattels and personalty, after a small gift to the poor of St John, to her brother Jean Remon, and his wife, Marguerite Catelinet
  17. Farmer in the Vingtaine du Douet, St John, then Quarryman (1871). There was no issue of this marriage listed in censuses nor found in Church of England registers
