Descendants of Jacques Bailhache
TreeIcon.png

This tree was added to the site in 2011. Mothers' names were not shown in St Ouen baptism records in the 17th century, so the position in this tree of some of the siblings in generations 3 to 5 is open to doubt. We have not yet been able to precisely link this short tree to any of our others for the family. However, those featured were clearly linked to the others, as all three of the main stems of early Bailhaches featured owners of properties within a few hundred yards of each other at L`Etacq. Furthermore, the Christian name Matthieu on this tree passed into the slightly later Descendants of Matthieu Bailhache as did the name Jacques into that of Descendants of Clement Bailhache. Use of the Jersey Land Registry will no doubt produce exact details, as well as those of earlier generations. The tree was reviewed and details added in 2021

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. In the St Ouen`s Register, the bride of "Jean Bailhache fils Jacques" reads as "Rachel Le Feuvre", although the "R" has a "C" that has been overwritten. This has led to the previous belief that she was named Catherine
  2. Described on his 2nd marriage in 1722 as "Jacques Bailhache senr. of L`Etacq"
  3. "Jacques Bailhache junr. of L`Etacq" in 1727. His godfather was Philippe Le Feuvre junr. of L`Etacq
  4. Godfather: Abraham Le Marquand senr. and his wife
  5. Her godparents were Elie Le Cornu, fils Charles, and Jeanne Bailhache, sister of the father of the child
  6. The godmother of Nicolas, in 1709, was "la fille du petit Matthieu Bailhache, de L`Etacq." Nicolas`s Will was proved in 1741. There are bequests to the poor of St Brelade, where he had settled, and to the poor of St Ouen. His elderly father was left £50 tournois, to be received on his brother Jacques Bailhache, being part of an outstanding debt, dated 10th March 1736. The said brother Jacques "et ses enfans" (sic) and sister, Judith received their own bequests, the remainder going to "ma Femme", who was not named. The executors were Mr Edouard Orange, Centenier, and Mr Edouard Martel, Sergeant du Roy: D/Y/A/7/41
  7. "Jacques Bailhache senr. of L`Etacq"
  8. Judith Bailhache was also mentioned in the 1768 Will of her half-brother, Jean Le Brocq fils William
  9. Matthieu Bailhache, ""fils Jean," had as godfather Philippe Le Feuvre and his daughter. Matthieu must have been short, as he was nicknamed "le petit," as seen from the christening entries of his children in the St Ouen Register. He, also, was of L`Etacq
  10. Godparents: Elie Le Cornu, Grandfather, and his wife
  11. There were probably two children born in the years 1671-1681 inclusively, which should be verified. Catherine was almost certainly the woman of this name who was godmother in 1711 to Elizabeth Bailhache, the daughter of Jean Bailhache and Elizabeth Le Ruez: see Descendants of Matthieu Bailhache. Jean was described as her brother
  12. His godparents were those of his sister Marie, in 1666
  13. Perhaps the Jean, fils Matthieu, of the 2nd generation of Descendants of Matthieu Bailhache. The Jean, on that tree, would have been fifteen on marrying
  14. Possible daughter. Not originally on this tree but her baptismal entry in St Ouen shows her as a daughter of Jean. At present, the above Jean (generation 2) seems unambiguous. Marie may also have had a brother Jean Bailhache (1639/40?- ) as a Jean Bailhache and his unnamed wife had, in March 1665/6, a son named Jacques, christened in the parish, with godparents "Jacques Bailhache and his wife", who had married two months previously, in January
