Descendants of Jean Pelgue

This tree, submitted in 2016, has been cross-checked with parish church records. It will be reviewed again when time permits.

There is a large number of baptisms at generation 7 of the children of Philippe and Marie. All but one of these is shown in the baptism register as Marie Pelgue, whereas one is shown as Marie Mourant. We can find no record of either marriage, but there are marriages recorded of Edouard and Marie Mourant and Jean and Marie Mourant. We have reached the conclusion that there was a marriage between Philippe Pelgue and Marie Pelgue, and that this was the Marie Pelgue shown in the burial register in 1797 as the widow of Philippe. It is most unusual for baptism registers to record a mother using her married name, so this was probably Marie, daughter of Edouard and Marie Mourant, making her her husband's cousin. The baptism of Jeanne in 1746, shown as the daughter of Philippe and Marie Mourant is probably an error. There is a large number of baptisms of children of Jean and an unnamed wife in the St Saviour register. The marriage register identified these wives, but it is just possible that there was an overlap betwen the families of two generations and that some children are shown against the wrong parents. Three children of Jean and Jeanne Ahier at generation 2 are shown in the baptism register as John, but they would almost certainly have been known as Jean. Although we believe this tree to be largely accurate, there are a number of burial records which do not fit with some of the relationships shown and the tree should be cross-checked against other data if at all possible.
