Descendants of John Hamling
TreeIcon.png

This tree as submitted to us in 2016 showed John and George Hamling at generation 4 as brothers. They were both establishing large families in Jersey at the same time in the early 19th century, but we were not provided with any proof that they were siblings and details of both men are very sketchy in online trees. To make matters worse, George Hamling, born in 1929, is variously shown online as the son of John and George, but Jersey baptism records, which we always prefer to online trees, show the George, born in 1829 as John's son, with George having a son George in 1815. The fact that both John and George had sons named John (or Jonathan) Effard (or Efford) seemed to suggest strongly that they were brothers or cousins, and further investigation showed that each was regularly called on to be a godparent for a child of the other. Further detective work has satisfied us that they were brothers, and enabled us to assemble this tree

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.
