Auguste, generation 6, was on board the ill-fated HMS Captain which capsized while on trials in the Bay Of Biscay in 1870 after being completed in 1869. Over 500 men were aboard at the time, of whom only 18 survived. Auguste was listed as one of the 'boys' aboard the ship on the memorial plaque in St Pauls Cathedral, London.
