Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

  87. Mariner, who died at Sierra Leone, Africa. His seagoing career states that Abraham was born on the 14th July 1833 in Trinity, Jersey, an entry that, despite diligent searches, has not been found. However, the Trinity church registers, at this date, do not give dates of birth, only of baptisms, which could be, on occasions, considerably later. One of eleven children, it was not uncommon for parents to be tardy in having christened, some of the children, especially the younger ones. The 1841 Census of Trinity rounds off, to within five years, the ages of parents and elder children in this and other families, but with this family, it is precise in the case of the youngest three, who were apparently then aged 10, 9 and 7. The latter was Abraham, who would indeed have thus been born in 1833, although baptized in 1835. His age at marriage seems to give 1834 as the year of his birth but his seagoing record gives 1833. He was apprenticed aboard Coris of Jersey in June 1849, just before his 16th birthday, remaining with the vessel until June 1853. He then went to the 222 ton barque Loyal in 1853, as an Able Seaman. He was Second Mate of Le Bas and Company`s 152 ton schooner-brig Nox in 1855. He gained his Second Mate`s Certificate (No. 11,545) on the 23rd December 1854 and his Only Mate`s Certificate on the 6th August 1855. He died about eighteen months later in Sierra Leone

  102. Thomas and Elizabeth disappear from local Jersey records in the 1780s. It is believed by several Canadian researchers that they moved to New Brunswick and had there a further child, named Thomas. It is however possible that this Thomas de Gruchy (1802-1849) was born of a second marriage of his father or even that there is a missing generation in Canada, born about 1780. Definite proof that Thomas de Gruchy was the son of this couple is likely to be difficult to find as the parish registers of Grande Anse were consumed, with the original church, by fire in the 1890s. If anything, this may well help, as it would explain why the connection is uncertain. Note: It should also be mentioned that the surname de Gruchy, at this epoch, was almost entirely limited to Jersey and to Jersey expatriates. In France, whilst the surname "Gruchy" was common in and around Normandy, for obvious reasons, having been borne by villagers from the various hamlets of the name, the only "de Gruchys" or "de Grouchys" have been the small handful of persons belonging to the noble family that originally owned these hamlets. The New Brunswick de Gruchys, living on the coast and initially employed in the fisheries which were then Jersey`s lifeblood, are thus seen to be inevitably from Jersey. The genealogy above is the research of Mr Gerald Poirier of Grande Anse, New Brunswick, and is recorded here provisionally, as received. All church ceremonies mentioned in this section of the genealogy took place in New Brunswick, (hereafter denoted N.B.), unless otherwise stated and are mostly from Grande Anse, from newspaper sources, censuses and random gleanings prior to the 1890s fire

  105. Of Laprairie, Farmer, 1861. The gap between his parents` 1829 marriage and his 1838 birth suggests there may be children missing from the record
