Historic Environment Record entry

Listed building

This fine 1860s building retains its historic character and features, lending much dignity to the area.

Mid terrace, three-storey with basement, five bays. Front elevation: Slate roof. Painted render finish with ashlar effect. A timber four-panel door, with glazed overlight bearing 'Hill Street Chambers' in gold letters, sits within a render doorcase topped by a console bracket. Inscription 18 JC 69 (John Coutanche) in render. All windows are four-pane curved-topped timber sashes, without horns. The top storey windows are slightly shorter than those of the ground and first floor, and the basement windows are les than half size. Four granite steps grace the entrance over the void created by the basement windows. The whole is fronted by spear-topped railings and gate.
